Joined by 170 delegates, including MPs and Lords, ABHI CEO Peter Ellingworth and Health Select Committee member Maggie Throup MP delivered speeches praising the significant contribution made to the UK economy by the MedTech industry. Both Peter Ellingworth and Maggie Throup MP emphasized the size of the MedTech industry, the number of jobs and the increasing role of exports. Peter Ellingworth also discussed the potential impact of Brexit on ABHI’s members and emphasized the importance of the recent EU Medical Devices Regulation.
A further contribution was made by Joseph Wennell a survivor of a stroke in his 20s, who told how his life had been saved when a recently approved medical device was used to remove a blood clot in his brain. Joseph’s story highlighted the need to keep investing in medical technology, and to make sure that procurement and training in the health system is made as efficient as possible so that new innovations can be rolled out swiftly.
There followed a drinks reception, and Chris and Marianne spoke with other delegates and shared views about the MedTech industry.
