A practical update on patenting computer-implemented inventions – with a preview for 2022
The American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (AIPLA) invited AA Thornton Partner Mike Jennings and Conley Rose President Michael Piper to speak about patenting computer implemented inventions including artificial intelligence and computer simulation inventions at the AIPLA Annual Meeting in Washington DC on 28 October 2021. Due to travel restrictions, Mike spoke via a live video link from the UK.
Their CLE paper is available here. If you have any questions or would like a copy of the presentation slides, please contact Mike Jennings via mjj@aathornton.com, or listen to AIPLA’s webinar on 10 February 2022 when the same team will take a look at the EPO’s preview of the 2022 Guidelines for examination including an example of the EPO’s approach to the assessment of inventive step for a technical application of AI.
We wish to thank EPO management for giving us permission to discuss the worked example in advance of EPO publication, and to thank Michael Piper for sharing his practical insights and vast experience.”
