AA Thornton welcomes five candidates for Virtual work insight days 2021
Earlier this month, we were delighted to welcome five engaging candidates to our first virtual work insight days, including the great-granddaughter of our founding partner Alfred Augustus Thornton. The two day event was an opportunity for the students to have a practical insight into various Intellectual Property roles within the firm where some time was spent completing some work examples and discussing these with their supervisors to get a real understanding of the profession. There was also an opportunity to meet with our Partnership Chair, Adrian Bennett, who talked to the students about his own career journey and what it is like to lead AA Thornton, and Head of People, Karen Genuardi, provided an overview of many different roles that people undertake within the firm.
Here are some of the ways the candidates described the experience:
“a really positive and encouraging experience in a very welcoming company”
“I had a great two days which have helped me to have a clearer understanding of the ‘next steps’ in my career”
“I have finally found a challenging profession I know I will enjoy and engage with”
A huge thank you to David Blair, Dan Byrne, Lindsey Rigg and Jill Wilson, who worked with the students and helped the two days run smoothly. As a firm, we are committed to playing our part in making the IP community more equal, diverse and inclusive, and we will continue to organise and run more virtual insight days in the future and reach out to our network of organisations that champion social mobility, students with disabilities and other underrepresented groups.
