The prestigious event hosted 200 delegates of influence in the motorsport and automotive sectors, including MPs and Lords, who witnessed the MIA present their annual award for outstanding contribution to the motorsport industry to veteran Formula One driver and commentator Martin Brundle. Martin joins a distinguished list of previous winners including Ross Brawn OBE, Sir Stirling Moss and Sir Jackie Stewart. The MIA’s award was presented by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) Richard Harrington MP.
During the event MIA Chief Executive Chris Aylett spoke of the challenges facing the motorsport industry including the availability of R&D tax credits, the rise of electrification and the potential impact of the VNUK decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union. Chris Aylett also encouraged attendees to take advantage of the opportunities presented by upcoming changes. Chairman of the MIA, Iain Wight delivered a speech praising the MIA and the UK motorsport sector for its technological and economic contributions.
There followed a drinks reception where the AA Thornton attorneys spoke with other delegates and shared views about the automotive and motorsport industries.
